We may as well call this one An Ode to My Cat.

This morning as I was napping on the couch, I felt the soft tap tap of Eponine's paw on my cheek. I always think, at first tap, "Maybe if I pretend to be sleeping, she'll just sit down next to my head or curl up outside the blanket." Which is never the case. Soon to follow, there was another soft tap tap, than another, slightly harder, but still gentle. I lifted the quilt to let her under so she could curl up next to me. And we slept happily for some time.

She is so different from Phae. Phae takes what she wants, when she wants it, without caution, even if she spills something or gets a sharp whack on the head. But Eponine is not so presumptuous. She asks first, then just keeps asking. Eponine will keep trying for what she wants, but will never intrude until it is allowed. She'll keep tapping, keep sitting on the keyboard tray, keep coming around and meowing softly. I didn't realize it until I watched her today, but Eponine, by her steady ways, nearly always gets what she's after. And I am always, always glad to give it to her.
